The Guild of Historians

Location

The Historian’s head chapter is located in the center of a small lake that now technically lies within the city of Altrua thanks to the city’s recent rapid growth. In total, there are around 100 chapters of varying sizes and popularity scattered around the nation. There is one located in every major city and several towns have sprung up around the more distant chapters.

Purpose

The official purpose of the Guild is to Explore the ruins of the ancient society, Document all the finds to uncover the history that was forgotten and Recreate the old technologies to advance current society. However, with the varied skill sets required to safely return from their exploration missions, Historians have also become the go to for problems that require a more “advanced” solution, especially in the more rural chapters.

Public Opinion

Overall, the public thinks very highly of the Guild of Historians. There will always be some who remain suspicious of them for the things they keep secret. But most citizens overlook what they keep secret since what they do reveal normally means a quality-of-life improvement or since most Historians are willing to help with other tasks. Certain Historians are so well known that their adventures are spread by bards and performers across Kurus, turning them into living legends. The curiosity of the secrets within and the allure of fame unimaginable draws many citizens to try and become members of the Guild of Historians; though that is a task easier said than done.

Getting In

There is only one way to become a Historian: pass the test. The test is only offered 3 times a year; two are invitation only and the only public one is during Discovery Day in Altrua. It is unknown how difficult the invitation only tests are but the public one frequently inducts less than 10 new members and sometimes none at all.
