Attendance
Summary
Meeting at the Yawning Portal
- The party meet up in line for Volo's book signing at the Yawning Portal and introduce each themselves to each other.
- Eridian is an alumni from the Feywild magic school of Strixhaven, here to show the superiority of bladesinging magic to all spellcasters of Waterdeep. In line because she believes, rightfully, that Volo is a hack of a mage. (Eri is canonically also an autistic bitch.)
- Penjamin is a member of the Cobalt Soul who sailed by ship from Tal'Dorei to this port city to get an autographed book signed by Volo for his master Gojo. Also in Waterdeep to expand his knowledge of his full Monk abilities.
- Fizzie, a famous clown and performer within Baldur's Gate came to Waterdeep seeking fulfillment outside of performance. Volo, a fellow celebrity, seems like the right guy to seek advice from.
- As they reach the front of the line, a troll starts to climb out of the well of the Yawning Portal. Other tavern patrons hide and seek cover, while the party ready themselves to fight.
- Durnan, the owner and bartender joins the fight. Fizzie manages to cast a spell that drops the troll back into the well and Durnan jumps in to finish off the troll.
- Volo, seeing the courage and bravery to take on the troll asks the party to sit as he buys them a round of drinks. The PC's all receive an autographed copy of Volo's Waterdeep Enchiridion and Eri berates him on being a terrible wizard.
- Penjamin compliments the socially anxious bard, Mattrim "Threestrings" Mereg, of the tavern because of all the bangers he is playing.
- Volo presents them with a job with the payment of 10gp up front to find and possibly rescue his friend Floon Blagmaar, a hansome red headed man, who was last seen at the Skewered Dragon inn in the Dock Ward. Volo promises 100gp each to them once Floon is found.
- Eri deduces that Volo may not have that much money, so she brings it up. Volo confesses that 100gp is a bit much because he hasn't been paid for his new book publication yet, but instead tells the party that he can part with a deed to a haunted house located in the city as payment instead.
Investigating Floon's Disappearance
- Agreeing to the payment, the party make their way to the dock ward. On their way there they are stopped by the City Watch, who are making arrests of a street brawl. Fizzie notices tattoos on each of the victims and perpetrators, but doesn't draw the significance of it. The City Watch informs the party that both of these groups are members of both The Eyes (The local gang lead by the Beholder Xanathar) and The Zhentarim (a regional mercenary network).
- The watch members also gives the party a copy of The Code Legal and is told to stay out of trouble as well as give directions to the Skewered Dragon.
- On the way to the Skewered Dragon, the party makes a stop at Old Xoblob's Shop and do some trinket shopping. The shopkeeper happens to be a Deep Gnome with some brain damage. Eridian learns that you actually need to use money in the material plane instead of just bartering and Fizzie finds a peculiar brass orb with strange runes on it, and with the use of Comprehend Languages finds out the runes are primordial.
- At the Skewered Dragon they ask around if they saw some red headed nobles come by a few nights ago and finds out that after Volo left, Floon was joined by Ranaer Neverember and left a few hours after. Both Fizzie and Penjamin gives their signed copy of Volo's book as payment to the regulars, who happen to be huge fans, to find out that the two men were followed by thugs who looked like they were part of the Zhentarim. The bartender suggests the party go to Candle Lane, where there have been more graffiti markings of the Zhents lately.
Rescuing a Ginger
- They make their way to Candle Lane, all of the lights in the dark alley are off except the one with a blue continual flame and all of the buildings bearing the markings of the Zhentarim, a flying snake.
- With some investigation the group sees multiple dead bodies bearing the Zhentarim tattoos and a group of Kenku in the building waiting for any intruders waiting for an ambush. Eri was able to put one of them to sleep which sent the Kenku on high alert.
- A battle ensues, where Eri kills 2 of the Kenku in cold blood and Penjamin accidentally kills one with a swift drop kick to the face and Fizzie interrogates the last one with a rubber chicken on what happened.
- This is when Ranaer comes out of a storage closet and helps with the interrogation. Through this, there was a revelation that the Zhentarim captured both Ranaer and Floon and brought them to this safe house to interrogate them on something called the Stone of Golorr. But then soon after members of Xanathar's Gang came in to kill the Zhents and took Floon, instead of Ranaer, by mistake.
- The Xanathar's Gang left the Kenku here to fight whoever shows up and cover their tracks, while Ranaer was able to hide in a storage closet until the watch came.
- Ranaer suspects that The Eyes have taken Floon to somewhere in the sewers.
Night out with a Noble
- Ranaer says that before finding floon, they should fully rest up and offers to pay for a night's stay at any inn. Fizzie mentions not to go back to any place
- Eri says that she really wants some Giggle Juice, and Ranaer mentions to the group that he knows a place, and takes them to The Empty Keg, which was on the same street as the Yawning Portal.
- Giggle juice is just a strong beer, but also your hiccups results in bubbles that giggles when burst.
- Afterwards the entire group make their way to Mother Salinka's House of Pleasures next door. Each of them is able to buy a night with a courtesan; Ranaer getting a drow, Pen and Eri both getting a high elf and Fizzie paying extra for some kinky shit with a halfling.
- They finally retire at the end of the night with a room back in the Yawning Portal and have a long rest.
